OK! WE HAVE HAD THE 103rd AGM
RULE 8 CHANGED TO PREPARE FOR SWITCHING OFF THE LIGHTS!

A total of 51 Old Faradians and their wives and friends attended the AGM and Luncheon on March 26. Three more had booked were unable to make it due to sickness.

32 members attended the AGM, which is a very good response for an ageing organization.

Apologies were received from Derek Dalton, Teddy Akerhielm, Sue Higham, Ian Cadell, Phil Sutton, Major RAR Hoare, Mike Carnaby, Graham Courtier, Dick Maylin and Graham Chandler. All sent their good wishes.

The Minutes of last year’s AGM were approved unanimously.

Our Hon. Treasurer, Gerald Palmer reported, as usual on our finances. He said that our income for the year was £13.85 whilst our expenses for stationery, stamps bank charges, printing and the website totaled £613.89. Our loss on functions was £345.10 giving us a total deficit of £958.99. This reduced our accumulated fund to £3982.86. Members approved the accounts, again unanimously.

The Hon. Secretary, David Ollington thanked Gerald Palmer for all his work on our finances. He also thanked Martin Gratte for allowing us to hold our Council Meetings at his offices at no charge. He thanked Ian Alexander for arranging such good visits. He also showed some facts and figures about the use our members made of our website. This year another 1000 people have visited our site and viewed 1600 pages. The last 100 to view came from 16 different countries. Some 74% come from the UK but our overseas members keep in touch this way.

The Election of Members to the Council was next on the Agenda. No new members were proposed so the Hon. Secretary proposed that all retiring members be re-elected along with the sitting members. Gerald Palmer, our Hon. Treasurer, was voted to be Senior Vice President. The elections were proposed and seconded.

Ian Alexander, the outgoing President reported on his London Eye and Thames Launch visit where 36 members and friends came. He also reported on the Cambridge Punting trip along the backs where 24 Old Faradians and friends took part. The weather was very kind on both occasions and everyone who came thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Chris Parker, as Incoming President outlined his plans for the year,. In June (later fixed for June 25) he planned for a visit to Kensington Palace. A date had been fixed earlier but the palace then planned to put on some extra exhibitions. There would be a tour of the 18 state apartments, then the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection. Afterwards a new exhibition called Diana’s Fashion and Style. There will also be an exhibition called The Last of the Debutantes with more dresses. This will be a visit for the ladies.

The Autumn Visit will be to Lord’s Cricket Ground where we will see the Ashes, The Long Room, the Wisden Trophy, the Real Tennis Court, the Grandstand and the Media Centre. The date is October 8th.

The Amendment to Rule 8 –Winding up the Association. The Hon. Secretary explained that the original rule required a ballot of all members prior to closure. In our case there is no option but closure, so that we need to amend the rule so that voting at an Extraordinary General Meeting will be sufficient. The rule change now states that “Voting on the resolution shall be by all those present at an EGM.” Such an EGM will follow next year’s AGM.

The next AGM will be held on Wednesday March 25 2009. This is to be confirmed with the National Liberal Club. The meeting adjourned so that we could join the ladies for a drink and luncheon.
