FORTHCOMING EVENTS
AGM AND LONDON LUNCHEON
Wednesday 25th March 2009
The next event is the AGM and London Luncheon at the National Liberal Club. This takes place on Wednesday 25th March
at 11.30am (with coffee available from 11am). This year the price will be £27.50. We have held the price at £25 for
many years now, and each year our expenditure exceeds our income. Now that our funds are shrinking the Council felt
that a small increase was justified. It will be a very important meeting as the EGM will follow the AGM and it is at
this meeting that the final date will be established for termination of our Association. Do come if you possibly can.
You know that you will get a good meal afterwards! AND you will have a chance to meet with old friends. Even
better—your President has arranged for our speaker this year to be David Ball of the Magic Circle. We rather suspect
that it will not just be a talk ….he might have a few tricks up his sleeve! Don’t miss it! Remember—there will only
be one more AGM after this one!
You will have received the Agenda for the AGM with the Newsletter (if things have gone as planned). All the usual
things are there except for the longer serving members of the Council resigning to make way for new blood—we’ve run
out of that!
The most important thing takes place in the Extra Ordinary General Meeting that follows the AGM. This is where a vote
is taken to terminate the Association. As you will know the Council has done it’s best to attract younger members to
take over the running of the FHOSA. As no one has come forward and we are all nearing, or passed, 80 we feel it must
come to an end. The proposed date is to cease operation with the AGM in 2010. After this we will tie up any financial
matters outstanding. There will be no more Newsletters and all correspondence with members will cease as there will be
no money for stationery or postage.
What will we do after the closure, assuming we are still alive and kicking? We feel that we might carry on as a
Luncheon Club. There would be no subsidy, the meal would be charged to everyone at the rate charged by the restaurant.
There will be no organised visits although the meal might take place at different venues. We would like to know what
you think might happen and we could discuss it at the AGM.
