FARADAY HOUSE OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION
AGM and London Luncheon Wednesday
26 March 2008

Yes! The AGM took place, as planned. We were very pleased to see that 51 of you turned up for lunch and some 32 Old Faradians took part in the important AGM. Three more had booked to come but had to cancel at the last minute due to illness.

All the usual business took place - the Hon. Treasurer explained how we had done financially ( Our Accumulated Fund is down to just under £4000), The Hon. Secretary said that we had again had 1000 views of our website during the year. Those people looked at 1600 pages. Of the last 100 visitors to our site some 74% were from the UK, the others were from 16 different countries. The Outgoing President reviewed our visits during the year (to the London Eye and Punting the Backs at Cambridge.) The Incoming President indicated what visits were planned for this year ( Kensington Palace and Lord's Cricket Ground). The proposed changes to the Association Rules were explained. Basically it means that we hold an Extraordinary General Meeting after the AGM next year and the closure date will be proposed. A vote taken at the EGM will confirm the date. We will then make plans for the last visits to be made and try and arrange a worthy event prior to switching off the lights! After the AGM we joined the ladies, had a drink or two, and then sat down to a good 3 course lunch. Afterwards we had a talk by Bob King who was at Bletchley Park during the War and who recorded the Morse traffic which was passed to the code breakers. You hear a lot about breaking codes but not much about the guys who had to record every letter of the intercepted messages. Because they were in groups of letters and numbers you had to be accurate, and had no possibility of guessing a letter which would have been possible with normal English text.

All the details of the AGM will be with you shortly.

To see a few pictures of the Faradians who attended the AGM look at the Picture Page. In particular I draw your attention to John Paul who is shown talking to John Smith. John Paul is 90 years of age and looks 20 years younger! He still comes to our meetings in the London area.
